We love practical effects. They create realism which is essential to selling dread and terror. Practical effects, when done well, can be awe-inspiring. After all, this is an art form. When done cheaply, practical effects will pull a film down regardless of the script or acting. They carry that much weight. Besides, if you're going to make a horror movie, and the script calls for blood and gore, you have to come correct.
Joining us today is Billy Coyne, a makeup & special effects artist in our favorite genre. We'll ask what made Billy choose this field, and how he determines if his work is up to snuff.
We also get a bit of show and tell with Billy showing off a number of his horrific works. Enjoy!
